After arriving in Japan Yasuke, also known as the First Black Samurai, was a slave of Italian Jesuit missionary Alessandro Valignano. He later became the favoured bodyguard and Samurai for the 16thcentury daimyō Oda Nobunaga. After the fall of Nobunaga he was dismissed and surrendered and he became a slave once again.
